Leadership

Team SCC,

We’ve been talking about the importance of a respectful workplace and ensuring everyone who works at SCC feels a sense of psychological safety as they do their jobs. If you haven’t already, I would encourage you to review our Respectful Workplace Policy that guides our approach to what respect means at SCC.

Aside from our policy, the Leadership Team and I want to provide resources to employees to form a shared understanding of how respect shows up as we work. To accomplish this, we are asking all employees to sign up for Crucial Conversations training.

This one-day, online training is provided through DES and is a gold standard across the state government workforce on how to have productive conversations about sometimes difficult topics. This training will ensure everyone at SCC has the skills to directly address challenging communication. We are requiring staff to take this before January 31, 2026.

Supervisors will have to approve their direct report’s request for this training, so please ensure you are logging into LMS promptly to approve the training.

While this training will be invaluable for creating a baseline of response to perceived or real disrespect in the workplace, we know there is more to do to address this in our larger conservation district community. We’ll be working on more tools and resources to ensure SCC is a great place to work.

Thank you for all you do,

James
