Margaret joins SCC to support grant management and serve as a district contact for the Riparian Grant Program. She brings extensive experience in restoration and environmental policy from WDFW and DNR.

We’re excited to share that Margaret McKeown has joined the Washington State Conservation Commission as our new Riparian Grant Program Specialist. In this role, Margaret will support grant management and program administration, serving as a district contact for the Riparian Grant Program (RGP). You can reach her at mmckeown@scc.wa.gov.
Margaret brings a strong background in environmental policy, restoration, and grant program management. Before joining SCC, she spent several years with the Washington Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Natural Resources, where she managed the Puget Sound Marine and Nearshore Grant Program and supported restoration, protection, and stewardship projects tied to the Puget Sound Action Agenda. She also partnered closely with conservation districts and local collaborators on reach-scale restoration in the Chehalis River Basin.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington, both focused on environmental policy and management. She is also pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Policy and International Development through Harvard Extension School.
Outside of work, Margaret enjoys traveling with her family and exploring new landscapes and cultures.
